Youth and College Director

The Reformed Church of Newtown (RCA) in Elmhurst, Queens is looking to hire a full-time youth and college director that will lead, nurture, and develop youth and college students to worship God, grow in grace, and serve God’s purposes in Elmhurst and the world. We are located in one of the most diverse neighborhoods in the world and the majority of students in our youth and college ministry are seekers or first-generation Christians. If you are excited about reaching out to students with the good news of Jesus Christ, helping students grow deep in their faith, and inviting other leaders to join you in serving, then we would love to talk to you more!

Main responsibilities:

  • Recruit, train, and develop adult volunteer leaders and mentors to serve the youth.

  • Oversee, with the core group, the selection and implementation of curriculum including planning lessons, teaching, developing small group questions, and supervising other team members.

  • Facilitate, with the core group, the administration of the youth and college ministry and the communication of youth events with the larger church.

  • Regularly engage in relational ministry such as meals, school events, and mentoring.

  • Integrate youth into the larger life of the church (mentoring and service opportunities).

  • Develop an overall discipleship plan that leads students into worship, growth, and service.

  • Meet and involve parents in the youth group ministry and the life of the church. Work with parents and volunteers to implement other ministries to youth.

  • Embrace Newtown’s vision and have a gospel-oriented heart for Elmhurst, Queens, and New York City.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A follower of Christ, a solid biblical-theological foundation, teaching, leading, shepherding skills, relational and interpersonal competence, excellent communication, organizational and problem-solving skills

  • Previous youth leadership experience and/or undergraduate degree or equivalent required. Master-level seminary education (or equivalent) a plus

  • Experience working in cross-cultural contexts a plus

Program Commitments:

  • Regular attendance at Sunday worship and church events

  • Planning and execution of Friday youth fellowship, Sunday school class, and outside activities/ mentoring

  • Regular meetings with leadership

  • Involvement with JoyCamp (our summer children’s program)

Compensation:

Starting salary compensated according to experience; $35,000-$40,000 with benefits. Compensation for resources, training, and other ministry needs would be negotiated in the youth budget.
